Cross-sectoral energy system operation
Sector coupling through Power-to-X provides new flexibility for scheduling and operation of transmission and distribution grids. Through cross-sectoral coordination of multimodal technologies and electricity, gas and heating grids new synergies in operation as well as dependencies between the sectors emerge, which can only be adequately taken into account with integrated system modelling.
For cross-sectoral system analyses, IAEW has proven models at both transmission and distribution network level. Based on IAEW's European transmission grid models for electricity and natural gas, power and gas flows can be combined optimized. District and industrial heating networks can additionally be modelled as flexible consumers. At the distribution grid level, the scheduling approach focuses on the optimal dispatch for market and grid oriented coordination schemes for multimodal technologies and storage systems.
