Power plant deployment planning
The IAEW's economic power plant evaluation tool comprises the evaluation of both conventional power plant portfolios and of virtual power plants. For this purpose, an operational simulation of the portfolio is carried out with the aim of maximizing the contribution margin. Considering technical and economic aspects, the portfolio's revenue potential on the spot, balancing power and forward markets is determined. By comparing the revenue opportunities with the associated operating costs, the profitability of individual plants, but also entire portfolios, can be evaluated. This profitability assessment can be used as a basis for decisions on possible modernization or decommissioning of existing plants. One of the strengths of IAEW's economic power plant evaluation tool is the high degree of model detail with regard to plant-specific modeling at a quarter-hourly to hourly time resolution.
