IFHT and IAEW form new Institute
In the future, three professorial chairs will cooperate in the Institute of High Voltage Equipment and Grids, Digitalisation and Power Economics, IAEW. The new structure comprises the chairs High Voltage Equipment and Technology (EAH), Active Energy Distribution Grids (AEV), and Transmission Grids and Power Economics (ÜEW). The procedure for appointing the professorship for the first two chairs is in progress. The chair for Transmission Grids and Power Economics will be headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Albert Moser. The former Institute for High Voltage Technologies (IFHT) and Institute of Power Systems and Power Economics (IAEW) are jointly transferred into the new structure.
Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Prof. Moser: „With these three chairs in one institute we are able to provide our next generation of engineers with the necessary multi-disciplinary spectrum in their training and research to address the challenges we face in the energy transition. Thereby, we can answer questions from power economics and energy grid perspectives along our expertise from materials and components, fundamental energy system analysis as well as concepts for digitalisation and cross-sector coupling on different grid levels. Besides our several simulation tools we are able to proof the feasibility of developed concepts with our laboratory environment. Our new three fields of expertise ensure the strong interconnection between the chairs in our daily work. In addition, we focus on cooperating with our RWTH Aachen University internal and external partners. Therefore, the chair of Prof. Monti, Automation of Complex Power Systems, is associated partner of IAEW. Furthermore, we will foster the cooperation with our external partners e.g. Forschungsgemeinschaft für Elektrische Anlagen und Stromwirtschaft (FGH) as well as the department Digital Energy of Fraunhofer FIT.“
