Operating a transmission network in international cooperation with other partners represents an enormous challenge. This requires standardisation of many processes and intensive coordination. The daily system management includes the operational planning on day “D-1”, the on-line system management on day “D” and the day “D+1” post-processing. The lecture is intended to teach the fundamentals how to operate an interconnected system with a special emphasis on the European Interconnected System. The explanation of the physical independencies is one cornerstone of the lecture. Another one deals with the influence of the power market on the operation of the grid.
