Study on the further integration of offshore capacities in the North Sea

In the context of a study for ØRSTED Wind Power Germany GmbH, the further integration of offshore capacities in the North Sea is being examined on the basis of a scenario for the year 2030. The focus of the study is to determine the need for remedial measures due to an increased transport requirement caused by the integration of offshore capacities. In addition to the consideration of the different scenarios with regard to the integration of offshore capacities, a model of line-specific overhead line monitoring in network planning is applied.

The results of the scenarios investigated show that an integration of a further 3 GW of offshore capacity is technically possible, assuming that all planned measures in the network development plan are implemented, and that this will lead to a negligible increase in the curtailment of infeed from offshore wind turbines. In addition to the technically possible integration, however, there are costs for the additional redispatch of conventional power plants, which are not considered in the study.
