After more than 13 years, Dr. Bernhard Thies has given his last lecture on the subject of "Protective measures and protective equipment in electrical networks and systems".

Dr. Thies - who, following managerial activities at ABB, was active for more than two decades at board level at the DKE in the VDE, as well as president of CENELEC for three years - taught students technologies, requirements and modes of operation of electrical systems for the protection of persons and equipment, as well as the associated applicable standards, as part of his lectureship at the RWTH Aachen, his alma mater. In his lectures, which were very well attended, he always addressed the latest developments, such as the increasing demands on IT security.

During the last lecture, Prof. Ulbig expressed his thanks to Dr. Thies on behalf of the IAEW and presented him with flowers and the typical Aachen Printen as a gift. We thank Dr. Thies very much for his many years of service and wish him and his family all the best in their retirement.
